Vor einigen Tage kündigte der Multi-Platin und Grammy-nominierte Singer/Songwriter Shawn Mendes sein Album mit dem Titel „Shawn“ an, das am 18. Oktober veröffentlicht wird. Es ist Shawns 5. Studioalbum und handelt von den Reisen und Erfahrungen seiner letzten Jahre, die der Absage seiner Tour im Jahr 2022 folgten. Es ist sein bisher ehrlichstes und intimstes Werk in dem er den Hörer mit jedem Song auf eine Reise durch seine Gedankenwelt führt. Geschrieben und aufgenommen wurde es in den letzten zwei Jahren in den unterschiedlichsten Locations von Nosara, Costa Rica, dem Clubhouse Studio in Rhinebeck (NY), dem Bear Creek Studio in Washington State, Darkhorse Recordings in Nashville bis hin zu Electric Lady in New York City. Das Album wurde von Shawn Mendes selbst geschrieben und produziert, in Zusammenarbeit mit Scott Harris, Mike Sabath (Raye „My 21st Century Blues“), Nate Mercerau (Andre 3000 „New Blue Sun“) und Eddie Benjamin. Weitere Songs wurden von Grammy-Gewinnerin Amy Allen und Ethan Gruska (Bon Iver und Phoebe Bridgers) geschrieben. Am Album wirkte außerdem Chris Thile der Punch Brothers musikalisch mit.
In einer sehr emotionalen Nachricht auf Instagram teilte Shawn erste Insights zum Album mit „Music really can be medicine. 2 years ago I felt like I had absolutely no idea who I was. A year ago I couldn’t stept into a studio without falling into complete panic. So to be here right now with 12 beautiful finished songs feels like such a gift Honestly thank god for my friends and family. Life can be brutal but having a small group of people you deeply trust to walk you throught makes it so much better. I have no idea I would have made it through the last couple years let alone make an album without you. Scott, Mike, Eddie, Andrew Ziggy, Sylvie, Rachel, Prash, Sarah, Meghan, Connor, Tony, Aaliyah, mum, dad, Jocelyn, H.O.M., Matty. All of my friends and family, thank you for loving me so hard. And to you guys who have been so unbelievably supportive and patient and loving. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I really hope you love this album I do, I really do.
